The Chief Magistrate Moyo His Worship Tony Ojok has sworn-in the Obongi district local government council in a colorful ceremony with hundreds of Obongians doning President Museveni’s T-shirts and chatting NRM slogans showing their support for the NRM party.
Haji Abibu Buga Kemis Awadi who beat several opposition and independent candidates during the local government elections.
Haji Abibu Buga who was taken to Court by one of his opposition backed candidates won the court case.
During the swearing in ceremony Haji Abibu Buga who is also the district NRM chairperson got a handshake from the RDC Obongi Samuel Mpimbaza Hashaka who congratulated him on being re-elected district Chairperson Obongi.
After the swearing in ceremony the newly constituted Obongi district council elected Rt.Hon.Micheal Didi Paul was overwhelmingly elected the new Speaker after trouncing the only NUP councillor Akbar Rebita who was seconded by FDCs Aliga Hamid.
Mike Paul Didi who stood on NRM ticket was the NRM flag bearer who was elected by the NRM caucus before the swearing in ceremony.
Rt Hon Mike Paul Didi also received a handshake from the RDC Obongi Samuel Mpimbaza Hashaka and the former leader of opposition Hon Aletiru Scovia who crossed from FDC to NRM when President Yoweri Museveni visited Obongi district on 17th October last year.
After declaring Rt Hon Mike Paul Didi winner by the Chief Magistrate Hon. Aletiru Scovia blessed him with a Rosary as the NRM supporters shouted Museveni oyee… Obongi oyee… NRM oyee…..
Hon Munbgakwe Cicily who was the NRM flag bearer was elected unopposed as Deputy Speaker Obongi district council.
Obongi district council with 22 members has only three opposition councillors while the rest of the over 90% councillors are NRM.
The swearing in ceremony of the Obongi district local council was attended by the RDC Samuel Mpimbaza Hashaka,new DRDC Paul Abaho and ARDC Umuhoza Habiba Furaha.
