KAMPALA,UGANDA:Â The Member of Parliament for Labwor County, Hon. Michael Ayepa, has officially returned to the August House to begin his new term (2026-2031) representing Abim District in the Karamoja sub-region.
Hon. Ayepa took the Oath of Allegiance and the Oath of a Member of Parliament today, Wednesday, May 13, 2026, solidifying his renewed mandate following his victory in the general elections.

Speaking immediately after his inauguration, Hon MP Micheal Ayepa emphasized that his return to Parliament is not about the prestige of the office, but a deep-seated service for the electorate.
“This oath is more than words spoken in a chamber,” Ayepa stated. “It is a promise to the mothers walking long distances for clean water, in Alerek, Morulem Awach, Kiru or Kano, to the students sitting under trees hoping for a classroom, and to the traders in Ethur who rise before dawn to feed their families hence tgey need wealth creation.”
He noted that his primary mission in the 12th Parliament will be advocating for the youth and Women of Abim District as well as the entire Karamoja region, whose loudest demand remains long-term peace and stability.


The MP pledged to use his platform in the national assembly to voice the real struggles of his voters rather than political convenience. He urged the House to prioritize the needs of the common citizen, highlighting the plight of struggling farmers and underpaid teachers.
“Let my presence remind Parliament that leadership is not about how loud you speak, but how well you listen,” he remarked. “I carry the voice of Abim District to a place where decisions are made, to speak what is true.”
Call for Unity:
Addressing “TAYARI NEWS UGANDA”, he called for post-election landscape in Abim,to come to an end of political divisions but unity. He urged the community of Ethur to unite across all the sub-counties to ensure the rapid implementation of government programs.
“True leadership brings people together for a purpose larger than themselves. Let Ethur be an example of what happens when service comes before self,” he added.
Ayepa concluded by thanking his constituents for their overwhelming support, declaring: “Ethur I am now ready for work.”
The swearing-in ceremony for the 12th Parliament enters its first day today, ahead of the high-stakes election of the next Speaker and Deputy Speaker.
