KAMPALA, UGANDA — The Member of Parliament for Lira City West Division, Hon. Shedrick Vincent Obong Eyit, has officially been sworn-in to Uganda’s 12th Parliament.
Obong Eyit took his oath of allegiance and the oath of a Member of Parliament on Friday at Parliament if Uganda in Kampala, joining over 500 legislators taking office for the 2026–2031 term.

Lira City West celebrates:
Supporters and delegates from Lira City West Division, who traveled to Kampala to witness the political milestone of Hon. Vincent Obong Eyit, were filled with joy and happiness in Kampala. Security and protocol teams at Parliament guided the incoming MP, who was accompanied by close family members and key political strategists from the Lango sub-region suring the swearing-in ceremony.
Speaking shortly after he was sworn-in, MP Obong expressed confidence that he would continue to prioritize local road infrastructure, health advocacy, and youth vocational empowerment over the next five years.
“Our focus remains on taking Lira City West forward,” a member of his swearing-in delegation noted. “This swearing-in marks the beginning of a fresh mandate to complete major works, including the ongoing community infrastructure roads upgrades and electricity extension across our wards.

Legislative agenda
Obong Eyit, who previously served in the 11th Parliament of Uganda successfully, defended his legislative seat during the general elections under the Uganda Peoples Congress (UPC) banner. He is highly popular in Lira city west ans Lango sub region for his private investments in regional education, notably as the proprietor of Light Vocational Secondary School, and his direct lobbies with the Ministry of Works and Transport to upgrade rural murram roads connecting several areas within his constituency.
The legislator joins fellow regional leaders, including Lira City Woman MP and Minister of Health Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng, in representing Lira City. Following the conclusion of the three-day swearing-in exercise on Friday, all the sworn-in MPs are expected to convene on May 25 to vote for the next Speaker and Deputy Speaker of Parliament.
