Parliament of Uganda yesterday witnessed an interesting moment of political and familial swearing- in session as Erute South MP Sam Engola and his wife, Hon Betty Awor Engola, officially took their oaths of office for the 12th Parliament.
The dual swearing-in ceremony took place on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, in the morning underscores the enduring influence of the Engola name in the Lango sub-region’s politic.
- 11:00 AM: Hon. Betty Awor Engola walked up the parliamentary steps to be sworn in as the Woman Member of Parliament for Apac District accampanies by her husband Hon MP Engola Sam. Her return to the House is seen by analysts as a consolidation of her grassroots mobilization network in Apac District.
For onlookers, the sight of two members of the same household taking charge of separate legislative mandates on the same day was a real reminder of how Engola’s family are trusted in Lango sub- region.
Behind the smiles and parliamentary pomp lies a deeper narrative of wealth creation in Erute south ans Apac District. The Engola family has had an interesting moment of clear trust in leadership rendereed to them. Insiders note that this double victory is a success for NRM party.

Following the formal, sterile protocols of the parliamentary chambers, the center of gravity shifted to the leafy suburbs of Kampala. The family hosted an exclusive, high-profile dinner at the Silver Springs Hotel in Bugolobi.
The reception brought together NRM historicals, influential powerbrokers from Lango, and ecstatic constituents who made the long journey from northern Uganda. Amidst the clinking of glasses and political networking, many people praised the family’s resilience, stating that the double inauguration is not just as a personal victory, but as a collective triumph for Lango sub- region.
As the 12th Parliament is set for the highly anticipated election of the Speaker and Deputy Speaker, the Engola bloc has already signaled that they are a cohesive unit to be reckoned with for tge developmeny of Erute south , Apac district and Lango Sub-region as a whole.
