RCC Lawrence Egole urged women in Lira City to embrace value addition and money economy.

Lira City, Uganda – Lira City on Friday 12th, June 2026, held belated Women’s Day celebrations at the Mayor’s Garden, with leaders calling on women to embrace value addition and the money economy.
Hon Dina Bua of women council applauded the Resident City Commissioner Emmy Egole Lawrence and Mayor Sam Atul for their continued support during recent Women’s Day celebrations.
She thanked President Museveni for increasing funding for the Parish Development Model (PDM) and the Uganda Women Entrepreneurship Programme (UWEP), among other initiatives. Bua encouraged women to be active and take advantage of government programmes.

Eunice Otile, Deputy Mayor of Lira City West Division, praised RCC Egole for his vibrant leadership.
“President Museveni has empowered women to come up in a better developmental way,” Otile said. She urged women to add value to agricultural products and called on Community Development Officers to help find markets.
Opio Musa, the youth councillor in Lira City Council, who spoke on behalf of the mayor, emphasised the need for markets for women’s value-added products.
RCC Egole Lawrence called for women’s empowerment through marketing and buying Ugandan products.
He urged women to abandon a mindset of backwardness and embrace the money economy.

Egole applauded value addition and urged cultural leaders to support the campaign. He called for unity and cooperation among women to promote development.
He encouraged the youth to access PDM funds and use them properly, not to buy “headsets or damaged trousers.”
Egole also tasked women council leaders to mobilise women for the money economy and mindset change.
