Obongi, Uganda: The Obongi–Sinyanya ferry is fully operational after engineers completed repairs following a breakdown last Friday.
The ferry master, Walugendo Aspa, confirmed on Sunday morning that the vessel had resumed normal operations.
The breakdown caused major inconvenience to travelers crossing to Adjumani, Obongi, Yumbe, Terego and Arua.

Passengers without vehicles resorted to using small boats to cross the river. Motorists were forced to use longer routes via the Laropi ferry or through Karuma and Arua — a diversion of more than 100km.
Obongi Resident District Commissioner Samuel Mpimbaza Hashaka and Assistant RDC Umuhoza Habiba Furaha on Sunday monitored the resumption of ferry services.
Hashaka thanked the Ministry of Works and Transport for the quick response to the emergency.
He however appealed to the ministry to overhaul the Obongi–Sinyanya ferry by replacing all four engines, which he said are now weak, along with other worn-out parts.
The Obongi–Sinyanya ferry is a key link for trade and movement between West Nile districts.
The Obongi–Sinyanya ferry is back in service after breaking down last Friday. Ferry master Walugendo Aspa confirmed operations resumed. The breakdown forced travelers to use small boats while motorists took the 100-kilometre longer route via Laropi or Karuma. RDC Samuel Hashaka thanked the Works Ministry for the quick repair but asked government to replace the ferry’s four weak engines.
