Obongi, Uganda: Newly elected leaders of the Obongi District Disability Association have been urged to serve with integrity and ensure government programmes reach persons with disabilities.
The call was made by Assistant Resident District Commissioner Hon. Komakech Robert Obina while delivering closing remarks on behalf of RDC Samuel Mpimbaza Hashaka during the election of the association’s leadership.
Komakech congratulated the new executives and challenged them to promote unity, transparency, and commitment to the welfare of persons with disabilities.
“Work together and actively participate in government programmes aimed at improving livelihoods and social inclusion,” he said.
He highlighted government interventions targeting PWDs, including the Parish Development Model, Emyooga, the Special Grant for Persons with Disabilities, Universal Primary and Secondary Education, and access to healthcare.
“These programmes are intended to ensure that no Ugandan is left behind in the country’s socio-economic transformation,” Komakech said.
He reminded participants of affirmative action policies such as PWD representation in leadership structures, access to special grants, and legal protections that promote equal opportunities.

Komakech urged the new leaders to work closely with district leadership, development partners, and the community to advocate for PWD rights, fight discrimination, and champion accountability.
The meeting was attended by district officials, PWD leaders, and other stakeholders committed to inclusion and empowerment of persons with disabilities in Obongi District.
