KAMPALA, UGANDA – In what is being described as a “defining moment” for inclusive leadership in Uganda, the Member of Parliament-elect for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), Hon. Acan Joyce Okeny, will take her oath of office for the 12th Parliament on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at 8:00 AM.
Hon. Acan Joyce, a steadfast advocate for the rights of the marginalized, will be among the first group of legislators to be ushered into the August House during the three-day swearing-in exercise at Parliament House.
She has nade a call for unity and hope as she continue with another term 2026-2031.
In a statement issued to the media on Thursday May 7, 2026, Hon.Joyce Acan noted that her swearing-in is not just a personal milestone but a victory for PWDs in Northern Uganda and across the country.
“This occasion calls for unity, reflection, and renewed hope among all PWDs,” the legislator-elect stated. “Let us stand together in pride and anticipation, knowing that moments like these remind us of our shared responsibility in building the nation we desire and advocating for the disability fraternity.”
Hon. Acan’s return to Parliament comes at a time when the PWD community is pushing for greater economic inclusion and the fulfillment of government pledges. She has vowed to use the 12th Parliament to amplify the collective strength of PWDs, ensuring they are not left behind in the country’s wealth-creation agenda.
The Clerk to Parliament has scheduled the swearing-in to begin promptly at 8:00 AM. Hon. Acan will take the Oath of Allegiance and the Oath of Member of Parliament, officially empowering her to serve as a representative for the 2026–2031 term.
Each MP-elect is permitted to be accampanied by only three guests. Following the oath-taking, the new Parliament will lator convene to elect the Speaker and Deputy Speaker.
A FUTURE OF PURPOSE: Hon. MP elect and a returnee to parliament , Acan Joyce Okeny assured PWDs welfare during her tenure in office fir another term( 2026-2031), ahead of Historic Swearing-In Ceremony on 13 May, 2026.
