AMOLATAR – While corruption allegations continue to rock the cattle restocking programme in Amolatar Town Council, the Deputy Resident District Commissioner, Mr Obonyo Magwar, has emerged as a beacon of hope for the vulnerable after stepping in to rescue an elderly disabled woman who had been left out in a syndicate manner.
Ms Adongo Margaret, a wheelchair-bound resident of Mission Cell, Epyel Ward, Amolatar Town Council, was allegedly dropped from the beneficiary list despite being among the most deserving, as local vetting officials allegedly shared the benefits among themselves and their close relatives.

According to police investigations, the LCI Chairperson for Mission Cell, Mr Okello Thomas, allegedly vetted himself, LCII Chairperson Mr Ogangi John allegedly gave the benefit to his wife, the Chairperson of Elders Mr Amis Bakar Ibrahim allegedly selected himself, and Mr Jimmy Ocen, described as a UPDF deserter, was allegedly approved as an “unskilled youth.” The committee also allegedly sat without key members including the PWDs and Women’s League representatives.

In a swift and compassionate response that has won him praise from residents, Deputy RDC Obonyo Magwar mobilised well-wishers and personally led an intervention to restore dignity to Ms Margaret.
Through his efforts, Margaret’s broken wheelchair was fully refurbished, her dilapidated house was repaired, her daily diet was improved, and plans are underway to secure a monthly caregiver to support her day-to-day needs.
Margaret, who says she has been sick for nearly 11 years, could not hide her joy after receiving the wheelchair, thanking Deputy RDC Magwar for his kindness.
“I thank God and I thank the Deputy RDC for remembering me,” she said.
Her son, Mr Christopher Olele, also lauded the Deputy RDC.
“I thank the Office of the President through Deputy RDC Obonyo Magwar for his kind heart and the support he has given to my mother. He has shown true servant leadership,” Olele said.
Residents say Magwar’s action demonstrates what true leadership should be — standing with the vulnerable when systems fail them. Many have called for investigations and prosecution of the implicated officials, while urging that leaders should emulate the Deputy RDC’s people-centred approach.
Observers note that Magwar has consistently championed transparency and pro-people service in Amolatar, ensuring that government programmes benefit the intended vulnerable communities, not the powerful few.
