Oyam, Uganda: Police in Oyam have arrested a father and daughter for allegedly stealing UGX 5 million meant for a beneficiary of the Government re-stocking programme.
The suspects are Odongo Quinto, 58, and his daughter Auma Lydia, a mobile money agent in Kamdini Town Council. Both are residents of Dog Fitina Village, Myene Parish, Myene Sub-county.
North Kyoga Regional Police Spokesperson SP PJ Okema said preliminary findings show the complainant, Adong Rose, 59, was manipulated during registration for a Wendi account. Her account was linked to a phone number controlled by Odongo instead of her own.
“With his daughter’s help, the SIM card was later swapped,” Okema said.
On June 9, 2026, when UGX 5 million was disbursed to Adong’s account, the suspects allegedly reset the PIN and withdrew the money through a financial institution in Kamdini.
Police recovered both the original and swapped SIM cards. Mobile money transaction records linked to the suspects have been obtained and reviewed.
The two are detained at Oyam Central Police Station as investigations continue. The case file will be sent to the Resident State Attorney for legal advice.
Okema urged the public to respect government programmes. “We remain committed to prosecuting individuals who engage in fraudulent activities that undermine government interventions and public trust,” he said.
