Lira, Uganda -June 25, 2026: Global Youth Foundation [GYF] has launched a 12-month Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights [SRHR] advocacy project worth USD 10,000 in Agweng and Ogur town councils, Lira District.
The project is funded by the Center for Health, Human Rights and Development [CEHURD] with support from Amplify Change.

Speaking during the launch at Agweng Town Council on June 22, Agweng Mayor Richard Ogwang described the area as a “hotspot” for SRHR challenges.
He said despite having five wards, Agweng has only one health centre supported mainly by Village Health Teams, leaving thousands of residents, especially women and youth, underserved.

Ogur Town Council Mayor Madoline echoed similar concerns and pledged the council’s commitment to the project.
Youth empowerment focus:
GYF Program Manager Denis Okwir said the project aims to strengthen community-led advocacy, improve access to reproductive health services, and empower youth and women.
“We cannot work alone in the implementation. We need joined effort to support the youth and ensure that sexual and reproductive health rights are realised in Agweng and Ogur,” Okwir said.
Project activities:
The project will prioritise strengthening VHT capacity, mobilising communities through awareness campaigns and youth engagement, advocating for improved health infrastructure, and engaging local leaders to push for policy action.
