Apac- June 25, 2026: Police in Apac District are investigating a mob killing after a man suspected of stealing a goat was lynched at Ayeng Trading Centre, Ayeng Village, Ayago Parish, Apoi Sub-county.
The deceased has been identified as Ogwang, believed to be a resident of Akuli Village, Atopi Parish, Apac Sub-county, Apac District.
North Kyoga Police Spokesperson, SP Patrick Jimmy Okema, said the incident occurred on June 25 at an unknown time.
“His lifeless body was discovered abandoned on the roadside with a goat tied to his leg,” Okema said.

Okema said police records indicate Ogwang was among a group of suspected animal thieves who were “always in and out of prison on charges of theft of animals.”
“It’s also alleged that the deceased and others were on several occasions rescued by police of Apoi Sub-county and Apac CPS over similar allegations of thefts of animals,” he said.
The matter was reported by Adoko Walter, 42, the LC1 Chairperson of Ayeng Village.
“A team of police officers from Apac CPS and Apoi Police Station visited the scene, interviewed witnesses and recorded statements,” Okema said.
The body has been taken to Apac General Hospital Mortuary pending a postmortem. No arrests have been made yet.
“Efforts to identify the owner of the goat and the suspects are ongoing,” Okema added.

Police are investigating a mob killing in Ayeng, Apoi Sub-county, Apac District. Ogwang, a suspected serial goat thief from Akuli, was found dead with a goat tied to his leg on June 25. Police say he had prior theft cases. The body is at Apac Hospital. No arrests have been made.
