North Kyoga Police condemn mob action, 3 other suspects in custody.
OYAM — The North Kyoga Regional Police are investigating a double death involving murder by hacking and a subsequent mob action in Oyam District.
According to police, on the night of 5th July 2026, Okello Walter of Otada “B” Village, Kulabura Parish, Minakulu Sub-county, disappeared from home. No report of his disappearance was made to police by relatives.
On 8th, July 2026, at about 1:20 p.m., the OC Minakulu Police Station received information that a decomposing, beheaded body of a male adult had been found in a maize garden belonging to Ajera at Ajaga Trading Centre.
A police team responded and with help from the deceased’s father, who was at Atapara Hospital, positively identified the body as Okello Walter.
Preliminary findings show that on 5th July, the deceased had been involved in a fight at a bar owned by Ayo Alex and Apio Christine at Ajaga Trading Centre with Onegi Geoffrey, Ogwang Ronald, and another Okello Walter. He disappeared after the altercation.
Police registered a case of Murder by Hacking and arrested four suspects: Onegi Geoffrey, Ogwang Ronald, Okello Walter, and Apio Christine.
However, while Onegi Geoffrey was being escorted to Minakulu Police Station, he allegedly escaped from custody. Members of the public pursued and lynched him. His body was also taken to Anyeke Health Centre IV Mortuary pending postmortem.
The body of the first victim, Okello Walter, was also conveyed to the same mortuary.
SP Patrick Jimmy Okema, Regional Police Spokesperson North Kyoga, said investigations are ongoing to establish the motive and identify all those responsible.
“Police condemn the act of mob action, which undermines the rule of law and denies suspects the right to a fair trial. Members of the public are urged to always hand suspects over to Police for lawful investigation and prosecution,” Okema said.
Scene of Crime Officers processed the scene under the command of the DPC Oyam. Statements have been recorded from the complainant and witnesses.
