OBONGI RDC, DRDC, LCV INTERVENE IN BLOODY LAND WRANGLE, 8 SUSPECTS ARRESTED.

OBONGI, UGANDA–The Office of the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) and the District Chairperson have intervened in a violent land wrangle in Malanga Parish, Ewafa Sub-county, Obongi District, that left several people injured and 8 suspects arrested.
The suspects were arrested by police at Obongi CPS and later released on police bond to allow mediation.
Mediation on the disputed land
Over the weekend, RDC Obongi Samuel Mpimbaza Hashaka, District Chairperson Haji Abibu Buga Kemis Awadi, and DRDC Paul Abaho convened a mediation meeting with all parties involved in the dispute.
The mediation began with a tour of the contested land, which is over 100 acres, to establish boundaries.
Also in attendance was the Officer in Charge of Land at CPS Obongi.
Resolutions
After the meeting, leaders resolved to:
- Settle the matter amicably through dialogue.
- Immediately stop the use of bows and arrows and other forms of violence in the wrangle.
- Maintain peace as police and district leadership work on a lasting solution.
RDC Hashaka and DRDC Abaho warned residents using violence to desist with immediate effect.
“We shall not tolerate people taking the law into their own hands. Anyone found with weapons will be arrested,” Hashaka warned.
District Chairperson Haji Abibu Buga Kemis Awadi called for calm and assured residents that his office, together with the RDC’s office and police, will sort out the matter.
“I urge you to remain calm. We are going to handle this matter peacefully. Stop using bows and arrows,” Awadi said.
The disputed land in Malanga Parish has been a source of tension between families for months, with the latest clash turning bloody.
Police say investigations are ongoing.
