LIRA CITY, UGANDA– Residents of Lango Sub-region have been called upon to join “Run for a Cause” on 3rd October 2026, a fundraising run aimed at supporting children battling sickle cell disease.

Organizers say the event will bring together runners, walkers, volunteers, and donors under one goal: to raise awareness and resources for children affected by the disease.
“Run for every child fighting sickle cell”
Dubbed “Run for Hope”, the campaign seeks to stand with families and patients who endure pain and stigma associated with sickle cell.
“Whether you run, walk, cheer, volunteer, or donate, you become part of a movement that stands for life, hope, and a future free from preventable suffering,” organizers said in a statement.
They noted that sickle cell remains one of the most prevalent genetic disorders in Northern Uganda, with many children lacking access to consistent care, medication, and screening.

A call to action
The organizers are urging schools, health workers, community leaders, corporate companies, and individuals across Lango to participate.
“Together, we can save lives. Together, we can build a healthier Lango,” they added.
Proceeds from the run will go toward medical support, community screening, and awareness programs for children living with sickle cell in the region.
Details on registration points and routes are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
