Economic Monitoring Minister Hon. Santa Alum’s passionate call for mandatory National cleaning Day wins praise across Lango and beyond.

OYAM – The Minister for Economic Monitoring in the Office of the President, Hon. Santa Alum Ogwang, has urged all the people of Oyam District and Uganda at large to actively participate in public clean-up activities during the country’s mandatory National Cleaning Day on Saturday, August 29, 2026.
Speaking in a telephone interview on Thursday evening, Hon. Minister Santa Alum Ogwang said the “National Cleaning Day” will constantly and consecutively be conducted on the last Saturday of every month from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.
She explained that during the exercise, citizens and leaders clean streets, markets, and drainage channels, while non-essential business and vehicle movements are temporarily halted unless the one authorised in the guideline.
Public spaces to be cleaned include roads, schools, health facilities, market places, drainage channels and streets, among others.
The Minister noted that the initiative, launched on July 25, 2026, as Uganda’s first mandatory National Cleaning Day, is aimed at boosting public health, promoting hygiene and keeping the environment clean.
Hon. Santa Alum Ogwang has been hailed by residents for her proactive leadership and commitment to community transformation.
Her call, according to several residents of Ngai Sub -County, Oyam Town council and Lira City who spoke to Tayari News Uganda two days ago said, demonstrated true servant leadership and a passion for a clean, healthy and productive Uganda.
