Lamwo MP Nyeko Johnson Kezekiya Raised Alarm Over Collapsing Education, Minister Ogwang Pledges Visit to schools Devastated by Storm.

LAMWO – The Minister of State for Education and Sports, Hon. Peter Ogwang, has promised to drive himself to Lamwo District to assess the state of schools devastated by storms before the 28th September, 2026.

This followed a matter of national importance raised by Lamwo County MP, Hon. Nyeko Johnson Kezekiya, during plenary on Wednesday September 2nd, 2026.

Hon. Nyeko told Parliament that education in Lamwo is collapsing and being killed after a series of storms destroyed school infrastructure.

“Hon. Speaker, we feel that education in Lamwo is being killed. We appreciate the work of the Office of the Prime Minister that often responds quickly to disasters around the country, but in Lamwo, a storm devastated schools, removing roofs around March 2026. Another storm came again with a cyclone and continuously removed roofs of classrooms,” Hon. Nyeko said.

He added that more than 13 schools in Lamwo County are currently operating without classrooms.

“Hon. Speaker, I really want government to take this seriously that education is getting killed in Lamwo. We have more than 13 schools without classrooms now in Lamwo and what does that mean? Education is dead in Lamwo. We need urgent parliamentary support,” he said.

Hon. Nyeko further illustrated the impact of the poor learning environment, saying that recently out of 200 scholarship slots he secured, only 60 were taken up because of low education standards.

While responding, Minister Ogwang Peter said there is a Cabinet recess and as Minister of State for Education and Sports, he will personally drive to Lamwo and visit some of the dilapidated schools devastated by hailstorms before September 28, 2026.

Meanwhile, Mr. Benson of Paloga commended Hon. Nyeko for raising the matter on the floor of Parliament and urged the people of Lamwo to allow Hon. Nyeko Johnson Kezekiya to go unopposed in the 13th Parliament in 2031.
