Pakistani Community Celebrates Uganda’s Independence With Lira City Leaders, Calls For Stronger Partnerships.

LIRA CITY— Pakistani Association Lira Uganda President Mian Muhammed Nasir has said Uganda’s Independence anniversary is an important occasion for the Pakistani community because the country has provided a favourable environment for them to live and do business.
Speaking during a dinner organized by the Pakistani community in Lira City to mark Uganda’s 64th Independence anniversary, Nasir emphasized the importance of sharing meals and engaging in social activities as a way of building trust, promoting unity and deepening relations between the two communities.
He reaffirmed the association’s commitment to maintaining good relations with Ugandans and local authorities, saying cooperation was important for the continued growth of Lira City and the wider Lango sub-region.
Ms. Alice Akello Opio, the Commissioner for Northern Uganda in the Office of the President who was the Guest of Honour, commended the Pakistani community for their friendship and appreciation for Uganda.
Akello also urged Lira City leaders to consider organising similar celebrations for Pakistani Independence Day in the future, describing the dinner as a sign of the Pakistani community’s friendship for Uganda.
Lira City Resident City Commissioner (RCC), Mr. Emmy Lawrence Egole, said Lira is increasingly attracting Pakistani nationals, making it an important destination for business and investment outside Kampala.
Egole said local authorities and security agencies are committed to working with the Pakistani community to maintain peace, strengthen cooperation and create a favourable environment for business.
Mr. Fred Doi, the Chairman Lira Chambers of Commerce, said stronger partnerships between local communities and investors could create opportunities in agriculture, trade and agro-processing.
Doi urged leaders to explore investment opportunities in Aler, saying increased business activity could help stimulate commercial growth and create economic opportunities across the region.
The dinner was attended by Pakistani Association Lira President Mian Muhammed Nasir, Lira City Mayor Sam Atul and other leaders.
