NRM supporters are excited as Obongi district gets seventh unopposed district councillor.
OBONGI, UGANDA: November 20, 2025:The NRM party has gained more ground after one of the FDC flag bearers Hon. Aletiru Scovia , has withdrawn as a candidate for woman councillor of Obongi Town Council.This means Hon Scovia Aletiru’s withdraw paves way for the only remaining NRM candidate Maneno Inocent to go through unopposed in the forthcoming 2026 general elections .Hon Aletiru Scovia was among the hundreds of NUP and FDC defectors who crossed to the NRM party when H.E. the President of the Republic of Uganda Gen. Yoweri Museveni visited Obongi district on 17th, October 2025.Hon Aletiru Scovia nicknamed “dangerous girl” has been one of the most feared FDC mobilisers behind FDC in Obongi district.
According to FDC supporters talked to in Obongi town Aletiru’s defection from FDC to NRM party signifies the end of the opposition in the district including NUP and FDC party.
Recently the FDC Presidential candidate Nandala Mafabi together with the FDC boss in Northern Uganda Kaps Fungaroo, failed to attract good people of FDC supporters for the rally that was held in Obongi Town Council.
