Kwania District Hosts First Ever Tourism Run, Boosting Local Potential and Economy
KWANIA, UGANDA – November 28, 2025 – Kwania District on Friday successfully hosted its first-ever tourism run, a landmark event aimed at showcasing the region’s untapped natural and cultural heritage while boosting local economic development. The run, organized by the Kwania District local government’s tourism department, was officially launched by the Office of the Residence District Commissioner (RDC).
Deputy Resident Commissioner Aturu Abraham, who served as the guest of honor, commended the organizers, particularly the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO)’s office and the security fraternity, for their impressive resource mobilization efforts. He extended gratitude to key partners, including UBC TV, Ever Flow, Pearl Bank, Pride Bank, Aduku UCC, and various individuals whose support was instrumental in making the event a success.
Mr. Aturu Abraham also lauded President Museveni’s commitment to promoting local tourism, acknowledging its positive impact on national tax collection across the country.
Highlighting Kwania’s rich tourism potential, the Deputy RDC listed several attractions that could draw visitors. These include the picturesque Kwania Roof Top at the foot of Lake Kwania, the significant cultural site of Wii Polo, the serene Prayers Mountain at Cawente, the unique “colored water” of Lake Kwania, and various promising camping sites.
In his concluding remarks, Mr. Aturu encouraged the Lango community to actively utilize presidential initiatives, specifically citing the ongoing construction of the tarmac road from Rwekunyi Apac to Acholi Bur. He emphasized that this infrastructure development presents a crucial opportunity to boost agri-tourism businesses among the local populace.
Mr. Felix, the District Commercial Officer, echoed these sentiments, affirming that tourism development remains a key priority on Kwania District’s agenda.
Beyond the competitive run, the event also served a vital public health function. Free Tuberculosis (TB) screening and a successful blood donation drive were conducted by the Regional Blood Bank Lira, underscoring a commitment to community well-being alongside tourism promotion.
According to Deputy RDC Aturu, tourism run not only put Kwania’s attractions in the spotlight but also demonstrated a concerted effort by local authorities and partners to harness the district’s potential for sustainable development and community benefit.
