Minister Betty Amongi Pledges Major Agricultural Mechanization and Financial Boost for Lira City Residents.

LIRA CITY, UGANDA –December 4, 2025: Hon. Amongi Betty, returning to her home region at the invitation of Hon. Jimmy James Michael Akena Obote, has launched a significant development initiative focused on elevating agricultural productivity, providing affordable financing, and enhancing skills training for residents of Lira City.
Speaking at Iwal Primary School playground while addressing thousands of constituents from Iwal and Arumgai wards, Hon. Amongi outlined an ambitious plan to bridge the gap in farming capacity and financial stability across the city.

She promised to deliver substantial agricultural equipment, including tractor, oxen, walking tractor, among others highlighting future distribution of maize seeds and hand hoes to thousands of interested farmers within Lira City.
“We have brought maize seeds and hoes initially, but for those engaged in farming, we will lift the program of farming by providing the necessary equipment,” Amongi stated, emphasizing the move towards modernized agriculture. She further stressed the importance of labor, referencing Proverbs 14:4, which emphasizes the necessity of digging with hoes.
“Our goal is to ensure many of our young people and women have marketable skills that allow them to compete in the job market and start their own enterprises,” she added.

This piglets distribution program will be managed under the Amongi Betty Foundation. Furthermore,she announced the immediate availability of affordable loans set at a minimal 10 percent interest rate specifically targeting various eligible women’s groups in Lira City, aimed at driving business growth and local investment. She announced plans to establish vocational training programs specializing in high-demand trades:
A major focus of Amongi’s agenda is increasing the financial capacity of local residents, especially women. To facilitate this, she promised the introduction of piglets to groups in great numbers, specifically committing 30 piglets per eligible women’s group.

Infrastructure improvements, particularly the rehabilitation of roads and the extension of electricity access, were also highlighted as major priorities for her foundational work within the city once elected on the 15th, January 2026.
The campaign rally , which saw thousands gather at Iwal Primary School, underscores a coordinated effort to promote sustainable economic development across Lira City, as Hon Minister Betty Amongi works to fulfill her commitment to holistic community upliftment.
