LIRA CITY, UGANDA – December 9, 2025: Business in Anai Airfield, Lira City West came to a standstill on Monday as thousands of residents converged at Anai Airfield to listen to Hon. Betty Amongi Akena, a key political figure and Lira City candidate ahead of the 2026 general elections. The full to capacity gathering transformed the airfield into a vibrant political hub as Hon.Minister Betty Amongi, known for her grassroots engagement, campaigned in the area ahead of 2026.

Addressing thousands of her supporters on Monday 8th, December 2025, Amongi reaffirmed her commitment to agricultural development and financial empowerment for Lira City’s residents. She highlighted her previous initiatives, recalling the distribution of 20,000 hoes, tonnes of maize seeds, and hammers to women working in stone quarries in Ngeta—projects executed through her Betty Amongi Foundation.
“This is not the first time I am doing something for this city,” Amongi declared. “Even before campaign season, we have been on the ground—bringing hoes, seeds, poultry and hope to farmers and women who work tirelessly to feed their families in the city.”
Amongi pledged to continue and expand these efforts, promising additional distributions of agricultural inputs—including seeds and hand hoes—to farmers across Lira City. “Agriculture is the backbone of our economy. If we empower our farmers, we empower the entire community,” she stated, drawing loud cheers from the crowd as they jubilated.

In addition to agriculture, Amongi unveiled new financial support plans aimed at boosting small-scale entrepreneurship. She announced the upcoming launch of low-cost loans through her foundation, emphasizing accessibility and affordability.
“If you have 200 chickens, you can produce 20 trays of eggs daily. But you need support from us leaders on the issues of some soft loan, Health insuarence card among others . That’s why we are here,” she said.

The proposed loan programs include:
Five %-interest loans for school fees, repayable within three months
5% interest loans for a period of soo.e few months or one year term. This loan will be available after Christmas to small business owners like
Boda Boda startup loans to support youth employment
“These loans will be available after Christmas,” Amongi confirmed, urging residents, especially youth and women, to take advantage of the opportunities. “If you are in the city, you must do something to earn income. We are here to help you start.”
The rally attended by several UPC flag bererea such as Ogwang Mike Veve, Ebong Opeto Emmanuel, Akello Lydia, Okello Daniel , Opio Charles among others underscored Amongi’s deep connection with the people of Lira. Many attendees praised her long-standing community investments, describing her as a leader who “delivers before she campaigns.”
Local farmer Annet Apio said, “She gave me seeds and a hoe last year. My harvest doubled. When a leader keeps her promise, you know she’s the real one.”
As political temperatures rise across Uganda, Hon. Betty Amongi Akena’s blend of tangible development projects and passionate outreach positions her as a formidable contender—one whose message of empowerment resonates deeply in the heart of Lira City.
The Anai Airfield rally marks the beginning of what campaign insiders say will be a series of community-focused engagements leading up to the 2026 polls.
For now, in Lira City, the race is between Hon. Betty Amongi Akena and the minister of health Hon.Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng Ocero after one candidate in tge name of Aceng Patricia withdrew from the 2026 Lira City woman MP race last week.
