APAC, UGANDA — December 31, 2025: In a heartfelt gesture of solidarity, Dr. Akello Alice Opio, Northern Region commissioner in-charge of RDCs, delivered UGX 10 million in condolences to the family of Hon. Kenny Auma Lapat, the Woman Member of Parliament for Kwania District, whose father, Mzee Robinson Ocen, passed away on December 23, 2025. The late Mzee Robinson, 79, had long been a respected figure in Akokoro Sub-County, Abongodero Village in Apac District, and his death has prompted a wave of political and community reflections.

Addressing mourners at the condolence event, Dr. Alice Akello delivered the president greetings saying H.E the president would have loved to be present at the burial but due to unavoidable circumstances he could not come.
Commissioner Alice urged residents of Akokoro and beyond to rally behind President Yoweri Museveni in the upcoming January 15, 2026, general elections. “We have been behind because we were not voting for H.E the President. This time, we must vote. The President is a father to every Ugandan,” she emphasized, linking the condolences to the leader’s “divine mandate,” stating he was “ordained by God” and urging the crowd to ignore “propaganda” attempting to sway public opinion.

The commissioner dismissed recent controversies surrounding Museveni, notably the legal nullification of UPC presidential candidate Jimmy Akena’s name from the ballot earlier in 2025. “It was an internal legal matter within the UPC,” Dr. Alice Opio clarified, reinforcing the President’s neutrality and commitment to national unity.
Hon. MP Kenny Auma Lapat, who has actively campaigned for Museveni, praised the President’s compassion for supporting her family during their “trying moment.” She confirmed that her father had battled heart disease for over five years, with frequent stays at Mulago National Hospital, and had authored a will detailing arrangements for his burial. “The President sent condolences not because of politics, but because of his genuine care for our people,” she said.

Local Leaders Demand Unity and Vote for Museveni
Deputy RDC Aturu Abraham echoed Dr. Opio’s sentiment, stressing that Museveni’s gesture—symbolized by the presence of Dr. Alice Akello, a presidential representative, at the condolence ceremony—demonstrated his “commitment to all Ugandans, regardless of party affiliation.” He called on residents of Apac and Kwania districts to “vote massively for Yoweri Museveni Kaguta” in 2026, linking his leadership to economic progress via initiatives like NRM’s PDM and Emyoga wealth creation programs.
Onyuk Andrew, the Apac RDC, urged the people of Akokoro to disengage from NUP (National Unity Platform) politics and align with the NRM, which he described as a “mighty party of progress.” “Come January 15, every person must vote for Yoweri Museveni, the man with the hat and the yellow NRM bus,” he declared, underscoring the party’s dominance.

Mzee Robinson’s Legacy and Clan Reactions
The late Mzee Robinson Ocen, born on March 11, 1946, was a revered clan patriarch of the Arak Ongora community in northern Uganda. The junior chief of the clan, Kayoyi Denis, praised the President’s generosity, calling Museveni “the father of every Ugandan” and urging constituents to support his re-election. Notably, Kayoyi also claimed that Hon. Akena, the UPC presidential hopeful, is “the President’s son,” a metaphorical description tied to Akena’s legal challenges but not to a familial relationship.
Hon. Auma Lapat’s late father leaves behind a legacy of community service and a will that will govern his burial rites at Abongodero Village. Clan elders, including NkSongoka, affirmed that the gesture of UGX 10 million “proves the President is the only candidate we trust.”
As the presidential election approaches, the combined mourning with leaders like Dr Alice Opio and Hon. Auma Lapat leveraging the condolences to reinforce Museveni’s support base, the NRM seems poised to consolidate its influence in a region long seen as a political battleground.
The late Mzee Robinson’s sons, daughters, and the Arak Ongora community said the burial of their late father has made several of them to join NRM and it is a catalyst for unity.

The function ended with commissioner Alice praying for peace and unity in the family.
