UPC President Jimmy Akena, Holds Peaceful Campaign Rally for UPC flag bearers in Alebtong Amid Heightened Security Surveillance.

ALEBTONG ,UGANDA– January 6, 2026The Alebtong District Security Intelligence Committee (DSIC) successfully ensured the maintenance of electoral laws and public order on Monday as Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) Jimmy Michael Akena conducted a campaign tour through several sub-counties in the district infavour of UPC flag bearers .
According to a reliable source within the District Security Intelligence Committee who spoke on condition of anonymity, Akena arrived in Alebtong at approximately 3:00 p.m. as part of his campaign trail for the UPC Flag bearers ahead of the upcoming general elections scheduled on the 15th, January 2026. The visit focused on rallying support for UPC candidates in key constituencies, including Jalameso-Ajuri County, Elem Leo -Moroto County, Aduku Caroline Gloria Woman MP Alebtong district, and DK Odongo the UPC flag bearer for LC5 seat.

During his engagements in Abako and Amugu sub-counties in Ajuri county, as well as Alebtong and Aloi Trading Centers in Moroto, Hon. Jimmy Akena addressed supporters, urging them to vote for UPC’s flag bearers while expressing deep regret over the party’s exclusion from the official ballot paper list—a matter he referred to as a “lamentation” in line with biblical themes.
“His message was centered on mobilizing voters support, though he notably reflected on the challenges UPC has faced in the electoral process,” the source revealed.
The DSIC deployed covert tactical surveillance throughout the campaign period to ensure compliance with electoral regulations, public safety, and peaceful conduct. Security forces maintained a low-profile presence to avoid intimidation while remaining vigilant against any potential breaches of peace.
Akena concluded his engagements at 6:30 p.m. and departed peacefully for Lira, without a by interhption from the security. His orderly exit was acknowledged by the District Security Committee as a demonstration of adherence to national electoral guidelines.
In a post-campaign statement, the DSIC issued a public appeal calling upon all candidates, supporters, and voters to uphold peace and national unity during this election season. While acknowledging the democratic right to campaign, the statement emphasized the importance of supporting candidates who contribute to socio-economic transformation.
The UPC party chairman of Alebtong district Akung James Wapakhabulo ,congratulated the office of the RDC Okiswa Geoffrey for cooperating with them without any single interference from the security team He said he hope UPC will gather a good number of votes come January 15, 2026.

“The Committee endears and enjoins all citizens to wisely exercise their franchise in favor of stability and development,” the statement read. It further encouraged voters to support the National Resistance Movement (NRM) and its presidential candidate, H.E.Gen. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, highlighting government-led initiatives such as PDM-Emyooga and other livelihood empowerment programs as foundations for national progress.
As campaign activities intensify across the Lango Sub- Region, Alebtong remains a focal point of political engagement, with security agencies committed to ensuring free, fair, and peaceful electoral processes.
When contacted for comment, the Alebtong RDC Okiswa Geoffrey advised candidates conducting campaigns to adhere to the electoral laws adding that the UPC rally was peaceful.
