ALEBTONG, UGANDA – January 12, 2026: Alebtong Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Mr. Okiswa Geoffrey, has commended the Uganda Railways Corporation (URC) for its timely intervention in rehabilitating roads severely damaged by recent heavy rains, lauding the move as a shining example of corporate social responsibility in action.

Speaking to journalists on Sunday evening, RDC Okiswa expressed deep gratitude to URC, stating, “Thank you, Uganda Railways Corporation, for the job well done in line with corporate social responsibility. Your swift support has come at a critical moment for the people of Alebtong.”

The commendation follows URC’s deployment of essential resources, including trucks, a grader, skilled operators, and sufficient fuel, to begin urgent rehabilitation works on degraded roads across Alebtong District. The infrastructure had suffered extensive damage due to torrential rains and heavy truck traffic, disrupting transport, access to markets, and emergency services.

RDC Okiswa further recognized the pivotal role of Rt. Hon. Denis Hamson Obua—Member of Parliament for Ajuri County, Government Chief Whip, and National Vice Chairman for Northern Uganda under the NRM party—in facilitating the intervention.

“We highly appreciate the high-level coordination by Hon. Denis Hamson Obua,” said Okiswa. “His advocacy and commitment to the development of northern Uganda have translated into tangible results for our communities.”

The RDC confirmed that he has already instructed the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) to commence rehabilitation works effective Monday, January 12, 2026, assuring residents that the efforts will prioritize the most affected routes to restore mobility and boost local economic activity.

Communities in Alebtong have welcomed the intervention, noting that impassable roads had recently  hampered access to health facilities, schools, and markets during the rainy season.

URC’s gesture underscores a growing trend of public-private collaboration in Uganda’s infrastructural development, particularly in underserved regions. The Corporation are congratulated by the local population in Alebtong ahead of the roads rehabilitation as  they support national development beyond rail transport, fulfilling its broader mandate of social upliftment.

RDC Geoffrey Okiswa concluded his address by calling on other institutions and private entities to follow URC’s example, urging collective responsibility in nation-building. “When we work together, no challenge is too great,” he said.
