
Man Murdered at Traditional Wedding Ceremony in Alebtong District.

Alebtong, Uganda – February 9, 2026 – A 32-year-old man, identified only by his nickname “Bye Bye”, was brutally murdered at a traditional wedding ceremony in Te-Iconga Village, Kai Parish, Akura Sub County, Alebtong District. The incident occurred on February 7, 2026, at around 11:00 pm.
According to police reports, the deceased, a resident of Anai, Lira City West Division, Lira City, was among a group of uninvited guests who attended the ceremony at the home of Amai Odero. It is alleged that the group consumed alcohol and later became involved in a violent altercation, resulting in the deceased being assaulted and struck with stones.
Police officers who were deployed to provide security at the ceremony intervened and found the victim lying unconscious. Despite efforts to revive him, he was pronounced dead at the scene. Four suspects, Amure Ambrose, Ojok Oscar, Obot Andrew, and Okello Solomon, were immediately arrested in connection with the incident.
The police have launched an investigation into the matter, and the Scene of Crime Officer, along with a team of detectives from Alebtong Police Station, has visited and documented the scene. Statements have been recorded from witnesses, and the owner of the home where the ceremony was held. The stones suspected to have been used as murder weapons have been recovered and kept as exhibits.
The four suspects are currently in custody to assist with ongoing investigations. The body of the deceased has been conveyed to Alebtong Health Centre IV Mortuary pending postmortem examination.
In a statement issued to the media by North Kyoga Police Relations Officer, SP Patrick Jimmy Okema, condemned the incident, saying, “This is a quite unfortunate incident, however, on many occasions, uninvited guests are the ones that cause problems at a function. We encourage people to avoid going into a function when not invited to prevent such situations. Otherwise, we shall do all it takes to ensure that justice prevails for the deceased.”
The police are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward and assist with the investigation. The case is currently being treated as a murder investigation, and the police are working to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
