LIRA, UGANDA – February 10, 2026: In a powerful move aimed at fostering peace, unity, and collective progress, His Highness Eng. Dr. Moses Michael Odongo Okune, the Lango Paramount Chief (Won Nyaci me Lango), has summoned all prominent political leaders—both victors and defeated candidates—from the recently concluded 2026 general elections for a special reconciliation meeting and interfaith prayer.

The historic gathering, designed to heal political divisions and promote regional harmony, will be hosted under the auspices of the Lango Cultural Institution and is scheduled to take place on February 28, 2026, at 10:00 AM sharp at the Lango Cultural Centre in Senior Quarters, Lira City East Division.
Prof. Willy Okullo, Prime Minister of the Lango Cultural Institution, issued the official invitation on behalf of the Paramount Chief, emphasizing the cultural imperative of unity in the aftermath of a competitive electoral season.

“In the spirit of Lango tradition, which values consensus, peace, and communal responsibility, His Highness Eng. Dr. Micheal Okune, calls upon all leaders—regardless of electoral outcomes—to come together in prayer and dialogue,” Prof. Okullo stated. “This is not a political rally, but a cultural and spiritual gathering to bless our new leaders and to comfort and reconcile those who did not win. Lango must move forward as one under new agenda of development .”
The call for unity has drawn wide acclaim across the sub-region, with both supporters and political opponents acknowledging the symbolic and practical importance of the event. Among those formally invited are some of Lango’s most influential figures:

Cultural elders and community leaders describe the event as a revival of indigenous conflict resolution mechanisms that prioritize communal healing over political rivalry.
Recently Won Nyaci Eng.Dr. Odongo Okune stated that “Elections come and go, but Lango remains, “The Paramount Chief is reminding his subjects that leadership is not about individual victory, but about service to the people. Whether you won or lost, you are still a child of Lango.”
The reconciliation meeting will include interfaith prayers, cultural performances, and a symbolic unification ceremony expected to involve the sharing of ideas and advice from Won Nyaci among other key dignitaries.

“This is a profound moment for Lango,” said one of the clan leaders who wanted his name witheld by this publucation “When cultural authority transcends politics to promote peace, it strengthens both democracy and national cohesion.”
As Uganda continues to navigate the dynamics of democratic competition, the call from the Lango Paramount Chief stands as a timely reminder: progress is not measured solely by ballots counted, but by bridges built through meaningful reconciliation.
