OBONGI, UGANDA – February 12, 2026 – In a passionate appeal broadcasted live on Aulogo FM on Thursday, the office of the president District commissioner Obongi District, have issued a strong call to action for all parents and guardians to prioritize the education of their children, framing it as the cornerstone for the district’s future development.
The Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Mr. Hashaka Samuel Mpimbaza, and the Assistant Resident District Commissioner (ARDC), Komakech Robert Obina, used the FM radio talkshow on Thursday, February 12th, 2026, to express deep concern over the persistently low turnout of learners in schools across the district. This is despite the existence of government initiatives like Universal Primary Education (UPE) and Universal Secondary Education (USE), designed to make schooling accessible to all.
During the broadcast, the leaders underscored that the government’s provision of infrastructure, teachers, and learning materials is only one part of the equation. “Government has done its part by providing schools, teachers, and learning materials,” stated RDC Hashaka. “It is now the fundamental responsibility of every parent to support and supervise their children. Education remains the greatest investment any parent can give to a child and a strong foundation for the transformation of Obongi District.”
The officials outlined a clear and direct set of expectations for the community. They urgently called on parents to ensure all school-going children report to school immediately and to cease the practice of keeping children at home to engage in domestic work, fishing, boda boda (motorcycle taxi) riding, or petty trade.
Furthermore, ARDC Komakech Robert Obina emphasized the need for a collective fight against social vices that derail education. “We must stand together to fight against early marriages and teenage pregnancies, which cut short the dreams and potential of our young girls,” ARDC Komakech urged.
The mobilization effort extends beyond the household. Mr. Komakech specifically encouraged community leaders, including religious and opinion leaders, to amplify the message. “We must all join hands in mobilizing our communities so that no child is left behind. This is a collective effort for our common good,” he stated.
They also stressed the importance of a collaborative relationship between parents and schools, urging families to work closely with school authorities and local leaders to monitor student attendance and academic performance.
Concluding their appeal, RDC Hashaka and ARDC Komakech framed education not as a luxury, but as a critical, shared responsibility essential for the future prosperity and stability of Obongi District. They called upon every stakeholder to play their part in ensuring every child receives the education they deserve.
