Lira City Businessman Lalit Popat, Wins NSSF 2026 Compliance Award
LIRA, UGANDA-March 29, 2026:
A Lira City businessman, Lalit Popat, has been awarded for outstanding compliance with National Social Security Fund (NSSF) regulations.
Popat, the managing director of Honest Distributors Ltd-Lira, was recognised during a regional employers’ meeting held at Margaritha Palace Hotel in Lira City last week.
According to Mr. Popat, he received a message from NSSF informing him that his company had been selected for consistently remitting workers’ contributions on time.
He said the journey to compliance started about five years ago after realising that many of his workers did not understand the importance of saving with NSSF.
“I explained to them that even if they do not become rich immediately, the savings will help them in the future,” Popat said.
The company contributes 10% as the employer, while workers contribute 5% of their monthly earnings.
Speaking to the media from his shop along Obote Avenue on Sunday, Popat revealed that one of his employees has already saved about sh8m with NSSF.
He noted that timely remittances have helped secure the future of his four workers, including storekeepers and managers who have served for several years.
Lalit welcomed the award, saying it will motivate him to maintain compliance.
Geoffrey Waiswa Sajjabi, Chief commercial officer NSSF said Honest Distributors Ltd Lira, is among the most compliant companies in the region.
Other winners from Lira NSSF branch included Trays for the Future, Gold Mission EC Ngetta, Lira Central Primary School and Lira Regional Referral Hospital.
The awards were aimed at recognising organisations that consistently meet their statutory obligations.
