MOES Terminates Shs3b Obongi School Project Over Shoddy Work.

By Patrick Okidi
The Ministry of Education and Sports has terminated a Shs3b contract for the construction of Itula Seed Secondary School in Obongi District, citing substandard work and sluggish progress.
The project, located in Itula Sub-county, was launched in August last year during a ground-breaking ceremony presided over by the Obongi Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Samuel Mpimbaza Hashaka.
According to the RDC’s office, the ministry decided to halt the project indefinitely after an assessment revealed that the contractor had failed to meet essential standards.
“As the RDC’s office, we emphasized value for money, adherence to the Bills of Quantities (BOQ), and the work plan. However, the performance was dismal,” Hashaka stated.
Despite the project running for 10 months, records show that only 20% of the work has been completed. The termination follows repeated warnings regarding the timeframe and the quality of the implementation.
The Ministry’s move is seen as a stern measure against contractors who deliver poor quality infrastructure, stalling government efforts to improve secondary education in the region.
