By Patrick Okidi
The government has remitted the full Shs1 billion road grant to Obongi District for the 2025/2026 financial year, boosting the district’s efforts to overhaul its transport network.
The funding was confirmed by the Acting District Engineer, Misafir Ibrahim, during a quarterly Roads Committee meeting at the district headquarters. The session was chaired by the Obongi Woman MP, Hon. Maneno Zumura, and attended by the Obongi County MP, Dr. George Didi Bhoka, and the Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Samuel Mpimbaza Hashaka.
Following the meeting, the district leadership—including the LC5 Chairperson, Haji Abibu Buga Kemis, and the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), Humphrey Otim Benson—launched an extensive field inspection to ensure the funds are being used effectively.
Roads Under Rehabilitation
The committee is monitoring several critical projects where the grant is being utilized for maintenance and major rehabilitation, including:
- Dongo-Kochi Bridge
- Indilinga-Itipa-Malanga Road
- Obongi Town Council to Aliba Sub-county Headquarters
- Liwa-Daralopoke Road
- Palorinya-Aluru and Palorinya-Laropi roads
- Ngungu-Obogubu Road
Hon. Maneno Zumura emphasized that the timely release of the funds is a major win for the district, allowing for the completion of links that connect rural farmers to markets. “Our focus is now on ensuring value for money. We want durable roads that can withstand the weather,” she stated.
Dr. George Didi Bhoka added that the committee will stay vigilant to ensure the technical team meets engineering standards. Meanwhile, RDC Samuel Mpimbaza Hashaka issued a stern warning against any misappropriation of the funds.
“The President directed this Shs1 billion to transform rural infrastructure. We have the money and the plan—shoddy work will simply not be tolerated,” Hashaka warned.
