AMURIA,UGANDA: Security forces in Amuria District have launched a massive crackdown on criminal gangs, leading to the arrest of over 25 suspects accused of terrorizing residents.
The intensified operations, which began earlier this week, target individuals involved in waylaying, assaulting, and robbing members of the public. According to intelligence reports, many of the suspects are linked to the use of marijuana and other dangerous drugs, which have fueled a wave of petty crime and violence in the district.
The Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Amuria, Paul Eseru, confirmed that out of the 25 arrested, 12 have already appeared in court to face charges, while others are still being processed.
“We have information that most of these criminals are now fleeing the district to avoid arrest. We are following them up,” a security report stated.
Key Highlights of the Operation:

  • Targeting Drug Hubs: Police are raiding known “smoke-out” zones where marijuana and other drugs are sold.
  • Dangerous Weapons: Several suspects were found in possession of knives, clubs, and other dangerous objects used in robberies.
  • Public Vigilance: Residents have been urged to stay alert and report any suspicious individuals hiding in their communities to the nearest GISO.

RDC Eseru has called on the public to cooperate with security agencies to restore total peace in the district. “Security is a shared responsibility. If you see a suspected criminal, report him immediately,” the RDC advised.
For emergencies or to report suspicious activity, the public can contact the RDC directly on 0782332959.
