KAMPALA, UGANDA – As the race for the Speakership of the 12th Parliament enters its final, Justice and Constitutional Affairs Minister Hon Norbert Mao has issued a rallying appeal for national unity, promising to lead a House that prioritizes “integrity over intrigue.”
Writing to the nation in what many view as a strategic pitch ahead of the election, Hon. Mao urged Ugandans to look beyond current socio-economic hardships and focus on a “thriving future.”
“As your Speaker of the 12th Parliament, I am committed to serving with integrity, compassion, and vision. Let us work together to build a brighter future for all Ugandans,” Mao stated, describing his candidacy as a bridge-building mission.
Inside sources within the August House indicate that Mao’s bid is gaining significant traction daily. Dozens of Members of Parliament from both the ruling NRM and the opposition benches have reportedly pledged their support, citing his legal expertise and “sober” approach to legislative debate as the remedy for a House that has to respect the view of all the members of parliament.
The legislator for Laroo-Pece Division in Gulu City emphasized that his tenure would focus on youth employment, supporting entrepreneurs, and ensuring that the healthcare and education systems deliver for the common man.
Invoking the national motto, “For God and My Country,” Mao struck a hopeful tone, asking Ugandans to be united. “Let the sun rise again over Uganda 12 Parliament . With faith, hope, and unity, we can overcome any challenge together,” he wrote.
Mao’s emphasis on “values-based leadership” is a direct appeal to MPs to be united for a corruption free society. He challenged some leaders to put the needs of the people first and define a path forward that ensures a just and prosperous Uganda.
However, his camp remains optimistic, banking on his reputation as an orator and a mediator.
