BUKEDEA – The political future of the embattled ex-Speaker of Parliament, Anita Annet Among (AAA) hangs in balance as residents and political rivals across the Teso sub-region step up pressure for her removal from all leadership positions. The developments follow a series of high-stakes security operations that have left the Bukedea District Woman Member of Parliament facing a multi-agency investigation into alleged corruption, money laundering, and illicit enrichment.

The widening anti-corruption crackdown reached a boiling point after joint security forces placed Among under close surveillance and impounded her fleet of luxury vehicles from her Nakasero and Kigo residences for forensic analysis. Reports indicate that plans are underway within the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) and legislative circles to remove her from her triple portfolios: her seat on the NRM Central Executive Committee (CEC), her position as Bukedea Woman MP, and her membership in the 12th Parliament.
The enforcement measures have triggered spontaneous celebrations across parts of Bukedea and the wider Teso sub-region. Residents who spoke to TAYARI NEWS UGANDA described the ongoing accountability process as a long-awaited intervention against what they characterized as financial indiscpline and poor leadership ethics noted in her lifestyle.
“We did not elect our District Woman Member of Parliament. AAA (Anita Annet Among) forced herself on the people of Bukedea through intimidation, but we did not vote for her,” an aggrieved local politician stated, echoing the sentiments of several barred rivals in Bukedea and countrywide who are now demanding the removal of former speaker from all her positions within one week from the time of this publication.
A prominent LC1 chairperson from Bukedea town council, speaking on condition of anonymity, questioned AAA local leadership approach, stating that her political, economic, and religious interactions failed to uplift the actual needs of the grassroots populace but took her money to other districts to fight her own poligical battles.
Furthermore, the political fallout has extended to the floor of Parliament. An MP from Eastern Uganda revealed that Among created friction with over 30 legislators across the country after she allegedly sponsored weaker rival candidates to unseat them during the recent electoral cycles.
Frustrated electorates are now.preparing to petition H.E. President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, in his capacity as the NRM National Chairperson, to back their demands for the Electoral Commission to organize fresh, transparent by-elections in Bukedea.
“We want a genuine by-election in Bukedea so that we can fully participate in electing our legitimate representative,” a female voter from Bukedea town council emphasized.
