Obongi District RDC Samuel Mpimbaza Hashaka and Assistant RDC Komakech Robert Obina used a hired motorcycle to reach residents and mediate a land dispute in Obongi Town Council after their official vehicle broke down.
The two leaders rushed to Lionga Central Cell and Awindiri Cell in Lionga Ward on Saturday to intervene in a conflict that had threatened peace among community members.
Despite lacking an official office vehicle, the RDC’s team said they could not wait while residents needed help. The team hired a boda boda to reach the affected area in time and listen to both sides.
“This shows our unwavering commitment to service delivery, peace building, and conflict resolution,” Mr. Hashaka said. “The people of Obongi deserve timely government services. Transport constraints will not stop us from doing our duty.”
Mr. Hashaka reaffirmed that his team remains committed to effective monitoring of government programmes to ensure accountability, value for money, and improved service delivery.
When contacted, our reporter in Obongi established that the RDC’s office continues to monitor government-funded programmes even without official transport. The team either walks, hires motorcycles for self-drive, or uses boda boda riders to access project sites.
The RDC’s office noted that the breakdown of their official car has not disrupted supervision work. Through dedication and teamwork, Obongi District has emerged as the best-performing district in West Nile sub-region and ranked 11th nationally.
“Our duty is to serve the wananchi and promote harmony, justice, and development. No challenge will stop us,” he added.
The land dispute in Lionga Ward was successfully mediated, with both parties agreeing to maintain peace as local leaders follow up on the resolutions.
