LIRA CITY | KOLE
A section of leaders and residents in Lango sub-region have expressed disappointment over the low number of ministers appointed from the area, despite giving the ruling NRM party strong support in recent polls.

The concern follows the latest Cabinet appointments, where Lango secured fewer slots compared to other sub-regions. This has sparked debate among local politicians, elders, and NRM mobilisers who say the region’s loyalty has not been matched with appointments.

“We Delivered The Votes”
Several district leaders noted that Lango overwhelmingly voted for President Museveni and NRM candidates in the last general election. They expected the vote to translate into more Cabinet positions to help push the region’s development agenda.
“People here trusted NRM and gave over 80 percent overall votes cpmpared go otger sub region. We expected representation at the top table where national resources are shared,” one local leader who begged not to be quoted spoke on condition of a said.

Calls For Balance
Hon Sarah Awor Angweri former mayoral contestant for Lira city said people expected more ministers appointed including people like;MP Dr. Samuel Opio Acuti of Kole North county, MP Paul Omara of Otuke County, Hon Denis Obua Hamson among others but to their dismay, only 4 ministers were given ministerial slot arguing that equitable distribution of ministerial positions builds national cohesion. They want government to review future appointments to reflect Lango’s political contribution and population size.
Others urged calm, saying service delivery matters more than positions. They called on the few appointed ministers from Lango to use their offices to lobby for roads, health, education, and job creation in the sub-region.
The NRM Secretariat had not responded to the concerns by press time.
