Gulu Deputy Resident District Commissioner (DRDC) Cosmas James Okidi, has commended schools that are strictly enforcing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in the fight against Ebola.
Mr. Cosmas Okidi was on Monday, June 8, 2026, visiting several primary schools in Gulu District to assess compliance with Ebola prevention guidelines.
“While at Lapuda Primary School, I observed good conduct by both pupils and teachers. There were handwashing facilities in all corners within the school premises,” Okidi said.
He urged pupils to extend the handwashing habit to their homes and sensitise parents and community members on Ebola prevention.

However, the Deputy RDC expressed concern over the drastic drop in pupil enrollment and attendance in some schools.
At Lapuda Primary School, only 140 out of 300 registered pupils were present on Monday.
Okidi said absenteeism was being driven by children engaging in stone quarrying, fishing, and garden work.
“I appeal to local leaders to strengthen mobilisation so that all children return to school. We must not let Ebola or child labour deny our children education,” he said.
