Obongi Resident District Commissioner Samuel Mpimbaza Hashaka and Deputy RDC Abaho have directed the management of Obongi Health Centre IV to immediately clean all toilets and bathrooms and unblock stagnant water at the facility.
The directive followed complaints from patients about poor hygiene, lack of handwashing facilities, and absence of sanitisers at health centres and business premises in the district.
Patients also complained about dirty toilets, blocked urinals, and filthy bathrooms at the health centre.
After receiving the complaints, the RDC and DRDC made an impromptu visit to the maternity ward, admission wards, and OPD toilets. They were led by Dr Isa Stephen of Obongi Health Centre IV.
RDC Samuel Mpimbaza Hashaka and Deputy RDC Abaho said they were shocked by the state of the toilets and bathrooms.
“We have directed management to ensure all toilets and bathrooms are cleaned and stagnant water unblocked to destroy mosquito breeding grounds,” Hashaka said.
The two leaders pledged to follow up on the provision of handwashing facilities, sanitisers, and regular slashing of the health centre compound as far as Ebola fight is concerned.
They also advised residents to avoid shaking hands and to wash hands regularly with soap as part of disease prevention.
