Obongi – June 22, 2026: The International Rescue Committee has joined the Obongi District Ebola Task Force in the fight against the virus.
IRC Senior Field Coordinator Levy Byaruhanga disclosed this during a courtesy call on officials from the Office of the President in Obongi on Monday.

He also met RDC Samuel Mpimbaza Hashaka and Assistant RDC Umuhoza Habiba Furaha.
Byaruhanga said IRC joined the struggle due to “tremendous efforts” by the district task force to fight Ebola.
He said IRC will permanently attend weekly task force meetings and donate personal protective equipment for health workers.
RDC welcomes support
Hashaka, who chairs the district Ebola task force, thanked IRC for the support.
He said the help is timely because the Ministry of Health is yet to support Obongi task force operations.
Hashaka noted Obongi is high risk due to heavy traffic through Obongi-Sinyanya ferry and the 142,000 South Sudanese and Congolese refugees hosted in the district.

“Hashaka appealed to other partners to copy the IRC example by joining the struggle against Ebola”.
The Obongi district task force on Ebola has directed all OPM, NGOs and other partners to join the struggle and attend weekly task force meetings.
The directive was given during the eight district task force meeting held at the DHOs office at the Obongi district headquarters.
Members of the task force chaired by the RDC Obongi Samuel Mpimbaza Hashaka who is also Chairperson Ebola task force expressed disappointment about the partners who have kept on dodging the task force meetings.
The task force officially asked office of the Prime Minister in Palorinya refugee settlement to direct all partners to start attending the weekly task force meetings with effect from Thursday this week.
The task force resolved that the DHOs office as the secretariat avail the work plan and budget for the task force so that the Ministry of health, Obongi DLG and partners contribute.
The RDC Obongi Samuel Mpimbaza Hashaka thanked the technical wing led by the DHOs office and political wing led by the district Chairperson Haji Abibu Buga Kemis Awadi for their commitment in the fight against Ebola.
The deputy RDC Obongi Paul Abaho challenged all stake holders to continue with the good spirit of fighting together to defeat Ebola.
