Oyam, June 23, 2026: Police in Oyam District are investigating a case of aggravated robbery and attempted murder after a pharmacist was stabbed during a robbery on Sunday night.
The incident happened on June 22, 2026, at about 9:00pm at Med Minder Pharmacy in Kamdini Town Council.
The victim, Ali Nazim, 35, a Pakistani national and manager of the pharmacy, was stabbed in the stomach. An unspecified amount of money was stolen.
North Kyoga Police Spokesperson SP Patrick Jimmy Okema said an unidentified assailant entered the pharmacy pretending to buy drugs. He found Nazim locking up for the day.
“The suspect pushed the victim inside, pulled out what looked like a pistol, and ordered him to keep quiet,” Okema said.
The attacker dragged Nazim into the drug store and demanded all sales proceeds for the last three days, suggesting prior knowledge that the cash was kept there.
Out of fear, Nazim handed over the money but was stabbed before the assailant fled.
With help from a Good Samaritan and his boss Hussein Iftikhar in Gulu, Nazim was rushed to St. Mary’s Hospital Lacor in Gulu City after receiving first aid in Kamdini. He is currently admitted.
*Police respond*
OC Kamdini and his team responded after being alerted by the Regional CIID Officer, North Kyoga, who had been informed by his Aswa West counterpart.
Police cordoned off the scene for documentation. A case of aggravated robbery and attempted murder was registered at Kamdini Police Station.
*Inside job suspected*
“Preliminary findings indicate one or two of the three pharmacy workers may have connived with the assailant,” Okema said.
He said the suspect’s knowledge of the cash and the fact that it had not been banked raised suspicion. The victim also told his boss that the attacker was a familiar face in Kamdini.
Police plan to arrest the three workers for questioning, review CCTV footage from the pharmacy, and deploy a K9 unit to trace the suspect.
Okema urged locals to save phone contacts of area police commanders for quick response.
