MOYO, UGANDA — The Registrar of Cooperative Societies in the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives, Mr. Robert Bariyo Barigye, has directed that a special general meeting of Moyo Cooperative Savings and Credit Society Ltd be held immediately. The directive follows a petition by the Chairperson of the Board, Mr. Simon Peter Anyanzo, contesting the vetting committee’s appointment of two board members he says lack the required academic qualifications.
According to Anyanzo, one of those appointed is Abdul Nasur Majid, who he says is incompetent and underqualified because of his low levelof education The other is Draciri Walter, who he says does not have the required academic qualifications. Anyanzo said Majid, a former civil servant in Obongi District Local Government, was recently investigated by the Inspectorate of Government [IGG], which found he had a fake degree and directed that he be dismissed from public service.
Majid was interdicted from Obongi District Local Government recently where he served as a parish chief.
Anyanzo further said the same Majid has now been appointed by the Registrar of Cooperative Societies as Ag. Chairperson of Moyo Cooperative Savings and Credit Society Ltd despite lacking the qualifications.
The Registrar, Mr. Bariyo Barigye, has accordingly directed that a special general meeting be held on Saturday, July 4, 2026, at Moyo People’s Hall in Moyo District to address the matter.
According to a letter obtained by this publication, the Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Mr. Robert Bariyo Barigye, has called a special general meeting for members of Moyo Cooperative Savings and Credit Society Limited [SACCO] on Saturday, July 4, 2026.
According to a notice issued by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives, the meeting will be held at 10:00am at Moyo People’s Hall in Moyo District.
The notice, signed by Bariyo Barigye, says the meeting is convened pursuant to Regulation 21(4) of the Cooperative Societies Regulations of 1992.
The Registrar has directed that only verified delegates attend, and members are required to come with a copy of their national identity card.
The special meeting comes amid a dispute over board appointments at the SACCO, with allegations raised against the academic qualifications of some members appointed to the board.
