38 of 63 learners sit Exams; instructors cite lack of Latrine, chalkboards, water, chairs and tents.

LIRA – The Anai Functional Adult Literacy [FAL] Class/ICOLEW, run through GRATECH Hub, has completed end-of-course examinations for 38 learners, with organisers calling for more support to address gaps in infrastructure and materials.
The exams were held on July 3, 2026, according to Anai FAL course leader Abaa George. A total of 63 learners were registered, but only 38 sat the examinations.
Morish Amoki, a retired teacher and Community Home Economics Specialist who heads Anai FAL/ICOLEW through GRATECH, said the program is focused on integrated skilling and empowerment. He thanked the Community Based Services Office of Lira City, Lira City West Division Mayor Emmanuel Ebong Opeto, and Lira City Mayor His Worship Sam Atul for supporting the initiative.

Amoki also acknowledged the premises and large compound offered to the learners. GRATECH Hub is located in Anai Agali Bypass, about 3.5 km from Buluge Technical Institute, Lira City West Division.
Resource gaps:
FAL instructor Opio Tony said the class has three components: Literacy [Reading and Writing], Numeracy, and Skills/Savings. He said the class needs three more chalkboards but has only one. He also called for flip charts, chalks, rulers, textbooks, and incentives for instructors.
Abelu Quinto, secretary of the savings group within the FAL class, said the group needs a borehole due to water scarcity.

Learner Ojok Sam of Anai Agali said learners want NGOs and government to support them with tools for short courses alongside FAL, noting that the program runs multiple integrated activities.
Amoki Morish listed other challenges: poor myindset among some learners expecting immediate benefits, lack of Wi-Fi, chairs, a sitting tent, shelter, latrine, demonstration farm, scholastic materials, and facilitation for instructors. He also requested radio show sponsorship for learner mobilisation and asked that a skilling sector be included.
Anai FAL/ICOLEW class is in lone with Government’s Functional Adult Literacy program that teaches reading, writing, numeracy and life skills to adults to improve livelihoods.
