Two veteran UPC loyalists Ongom Reagan and Ogwal Acalo seek LC1 comeback in Lira City West Division.

LIRA CITY, UGANDA–Political temperatures are rising in Lira City West Division after two prominent, long-serving UPC mobilizers announced bids to return as LC1 chairpersons ahead of the 2026-2031 village elections.
The candidates, Mr. Wok Ogwal Dicken Acalo and Mr. Ongom Reagan, are both contesting on the Uganda People’s Congress ticket and are credited with strong grassroots support in their respective cells.
Mr. Acalo is seeking to reclaim the LC1 chairmanship of Anai Ober Cell, Anai Ward in Lira Citt west Division. His campaign poster for the 2026-2031 term emphasizes peace, unity and development.
“Atela atek, ape pokojo, amito kuc, dongo alobo, yot kom kede pwonyere” reads the slogan, loosely translated as “vibrant leader, unity, love for one another,non descriminative for peace development and promoting education.”
In Kakoge ‘C’ Cell, Mr. Ongom Reagan has declared his bid for a real vomw back. His message centers on peace for the wanahinchi, love and unity for development.
“Kuc pi atedero kede jamimere, mara kede note karacel,” the poster states, meaning “let us stand together with unity so that we can develop our village.”
Both men are known in Lira City West as influencial and veteran local leaders who previously held influence at village level. Residents say their return has shifted political calculations in the area, with some rival aspirants now reassessing their chances.
LC1 leaders are considered key in voter mobilization and delivery of government programs at the grassroots, making their elections a bellwether ahead of the 28th, July 2026 general polls.
The Electoral Commission has conducted nomination .
Efforts to get comments from other candidates in Anai Ober like Oturi among others and Kakoke C cells were futile by press time.
