SERERE — The Kazi Ni Kazi pressure group mobiliser, Mr. Daniel Mulalu Mula, has commended the Kazi Ni Kazi team in Serere and Teso in general for mobilising hundreds of residents for a free eye camp at Serere Health Centre IV.
Mulalo a former MP aspirant of Katakwi district, was speaking to the media in an exclusive interview on Saturday evening after the successful screening.
Hundreds of residents have turned up for the camp which started on Wednesday, October 7. It is organised by Fred Opolot Foundation in partnership with North Indian Cultural Association of Uganda, with support from Kazi Ni Kazi Foundation and Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU).
The movement, known for its “work not words” approach, is leading community mobilisation to ensure residents attend the camp. It was represented by Hon. Fred Opolot, an executive member, and Mr. Emanio J. Richard, the Serere District coordinator.
According to medics, many people in Teso suffer from preventable eye problems such as cataract, poor eyesight, allergic conjunctivitis and glaucoma. Services being offered include eye screening, cataract screening and referral for surgery, eye pressure checks, treatment of infections and health education. Patients are also receiving free reading glasses.
Organisers say poor eyesight affects productivity in a district where most people depend on farming and fishing.
“Eye health is wealth. If we want a productive Serere, we must first ensure our people can see,” Hon. Opolot said.
Meanwhile, Mr. Opio Milton of Serere has appreciated all members of PLU linked to Kazi Ni Kazi pressure group led by Hon Daniel Mulalu for the good mobilisation so far conducted.
Hon Daniel Mulalo said “Eye health is very important. If we want a productive Serere, Katakwi , Soroti etc, we must first ensure our people are really healthy,”as he thanked all residents from all sub-counties who turn up for screening.
