Child Fund of Korea has injected over 328 million Ugandan Shillings (UGX) into Obongi District, Uganda, to establish a modern poultry farm and goat project aimed at significantly improving the livelihoods of local communities, including a large refugee population.

The announcement was made during a groundbreaking ceremony in Itula sub-county, led by Obongi Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Hasaka Samuel Mpimbaza. RDC Mpimbaza expressed profound gratitude to the Korean government, through Child Fund of Korea, for what he termed a “timely income-generating project” that will “greatly cause social economic transformation” for both refugees and Ugandan citizens residing in Morobi Parish.

During the ceremony, RDC Mpimbaza directed the contractor to immediately provide bills of quantities for the project, emphasizing that construction must be completed before the end of December.

The comprehensive initiative includes the establishment of a state-of-the-art hatchery for eggs and the procurement of improved goat breeds, designed to boost local agricultural productivity and income generation.

Obongi District was specifically chosen for this modern poultry and goat keeping project due to its status as a significant refugee-hosting district. Currently, it accommodates over 142,000 refugees, making interventions that foster self-reliance and economic stability particularly crucial for the vulnerable population.

This vital support from Child Fund of Korea is expected to empower vulnerable households, enhance food security, and provide sustainable income opportunities, marking a significant step towards long-term development and resilience in the region.
