LIRA CITY, UGANDA – December 18, 2025: In a bold move, Lira City council female workers’ representative Hon. Sarah Awor Angweri, a secondary school teacher and IT graduate, is contestingas an independent candidate for the Lira City mayoral seat in the 2026 general elections. Awor, who is also a popular Lira city’s female workers’ representative, is the only female contender in a field of nine candidates, predominantly dominated by men.
With her sights set on the top job, Awor has promised to “clean Lira city that has for its beauty” and bring about a new era of leadership to Lira City full of unity, respecting the business community, rehabilitating and tarmacking roads among others.
