2026 Parliamentary Race in Lango Sub-Region: Who’s In and Who’s Out?
By Tayari News Uganda

The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) has officially released the results of the 2026 general election for parliamentary seats in Uganda’s Lango sub-region, held on January 15, 2026. The contest, marked by a significant generational shift in political representation, saw long-serving politicians and senior ministers ousted, while a mix of newcomers and seasoned returnees claimed victory.

A New Political Era
The election results reflect a stark realignment in Lango, traditionally a stronghold for the National Resistance Movement (NRM). While the NRM retained control in many constituencies, the Uganda Peoples’ Congress (UPC) made notable gains, and as well some of their senior leaders were also unseated, signaling a rejection of entrenched political dynasties and a push toward fresh faces.

Political Dynamics
The UPC’s strong performance in key constituencies like Amolatar, Kwania, Dokolo and part of Alebtong district highlights their Moblization style. Meanwhile, the NRM’s hold on urban centers and districts like Lira, Lira City and Otuke underscores its resilienceand protecting the gains. Analysts suggest the generational shift may reflect broader disenchantment among Lango youth with traditional political structures.
