Alebtong Security Forces Gear Up for Peaceful Rerun Election on January 27, 2026 in Ajuri county.

Alebtong, Uganda –24 January 2026: According to the Resident District commissioner (RDC), Alebtong district, the District’s Security Commettee (DSC) is on high alert as a rerun election is scheduled for 27 January 2026 at the 18 polling stations in Awei and Abako Sub‑Counties.
The operation, overseen by the Alebtong District Security Commettee aims to ensure a calm, peaceful and orderly voting process after the original poll was declared inconclusive.
In a statement released on Saturday to the media , Alebtong Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Okiswa Geoffrey warned that any form of public rally, campaign meeting, or mass gathering “shall be treated as a violation of electoral laws.” The RDC stressed that “outside influence, the peddling of rumors, propaganda, hate speech, and any insinuations of violence are strictly prohibited.”
“Let’s leave the issue of Ajuri to Ajurians.We do not want people from Teso, Lira, Gulu, Otuke or Karamoja in Awei. Let the people of Awei and Abako decide for themselves, “He added.
“All necessary measures are now in place for the day to be peaceful. The security forces have received clear directives to intervene swiftly should any breach occur.”
Security Deployment
The Alebtong District Security Committee headed by RDC Okiswa confirmed that a coordinated deployment of police and other security officers shall be stationed at each of the 18 polling stations. Their mandate includes:
Monitoring voter movement and preventing intimidation.
Intercepting any attempts to spread misinformation.
Responding immediately to any incidents of unrest or violence.
“The presence of security personnel will be visible but unobtrusive, allowing voters to exercise their franchise without fear,” said DSC Chairperson Okiswa.

Alebtong’s security Commettee are taking a firm stance to maintain peace and prevent any other disruptions during the voting process. With a heavy security presence and strict limits on public campaigning, violence or interuption, there will be a smooth, credible election on 27 January 2026.
The rerun concerns MP Ajuri constituency contested seat in Awei Sub‑County and Abako Sub‑County, where the National Resistance Movement (NRM) is having Hon. Hamson Denis Obuaas Flag bearer for the constituency seat in Ajuri and UPC presenting Hon. Jalamwso Fred as a flag bearer among others like FDC Ongom Emmanuel Okello, Jasper Molo contesting on an independent ticket etc.
“Ajuri matters must be left to the Ajuri people to determine their MP,” signaling a desire for local autonomy in the selection process.
CONGRATULATORY MESSAGE TO THE PRESIDENT:
In a separate communication, the DSC, together with its chair Okiswa Geoffrey, extended a congratulatory note to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, praising him for “protection of the gains in the district.”
