Kampala, Uganda -June 24, 2026: President Yoweri Museveni has appointed State Minister for Foreign Affairs Haruna Kyeyune Kasolo as acting Minister of Foreign Affairs.
In a letter dated June 22, 2026, from State House, Museveni said the appointment was made under Article 99(1) of the Constitution.
“In exercise of the powers vested in the President by Article 99(1) of the Constitution, I hereby appoint you as acting Minister of Foreign Affairs in the absence of a substantive Minister,” the letter reads.
The letter, reference number PO/11, was addressed to Kasolo at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs headquarters in Kampala.
Copies were sent to the Vice President, the Prime Minister, the Head of Public Service/Secretary to Cabinet, and the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The appointment comes amid public interest in who holds the foreign affairs docket. The substantive minister was not named in the letter.
