Gulu DRDC Steps Up Measles-Rubella Campaign, Vaccination to Begin October 1.

GULU – The Deputy Resident District Commissioner (DRDC) Gulu, Mr. Cosmas James Okidi, has stepped up mobilization for the measles-rubella vaccination campaign.
Okidi, who was hosted together with the District Health Educator, Mr. Kolong, on a joint radio talk show on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, encouraged the public to embrace the upcoming vaccination exercise.
The mass vaccination will begin on October 1, 2026, and end on October 5, 2026, a five-day exercise targeting children aged 9 months to 59 months (below five years).
Okidi said measles-rubella is a deadly viral disease spread through air.
“As government, we shall not entertain any propaganda or misinformation that would cause problems during the vaccination exercise,” the DRDC warned.
He noted that one of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is to eradicate diseases, adding that the country is still moving in the right direction.
On the other hand, Okidi said they have mobilized parents to send children to school following low enrollment on the first day of school opening on Monday. He directed all local leaders to do the needful.
On the commercial charcoal business, Okidi said over ten people were arrested for defying directives and will appear in court soon.
